23 November 2017Halfway Christmas Lights Switch On

Halfway Community Council are proud to be supporting this years Christmas lights ‘switch on’ at Halfway Market Square, Halfway Main Street on Saturday the 2nd of December. Come and join us and enjoy a free tea or coffee and a mince pie or two whilst being delighted by carol singers from our local primary schools. Children young and old will be excited to hear that Santa will be making an early appearance and will be giving out wee treats from his Christmas Sleigh. Remember, Santa’s elves are still working hard getting those big christmas presents ready for delivery by Santa and Rudolf and the other reindeers on Christmas Day.

This wonderful Christmas event takes place right in the heart of our community and is one that has been growing in popularity year on year. We at Halfway community Council are proud to support this annual event and are excited to be helping out on the day.

We are looking forward too seeing as many happy families at this years Christmas lights ‘switch on’ as possible. See you there!!!

13 November 2017Local Road Closure

Road Closure - 20th - 24th November, Lightburn Road

The main areas of the HUB at the shops in Hamilton Road have now been refurbished and the team are hopeful of funding to enable completion of the rest of the work very soon. The opening was the start a period of consultation with the residents of Cambuslang East on possible uses for the HUB and the team are very keen for innovative ideas particularly for new clubs/groups.

For Bookings or enquiries please contact 07419171325

For further info see website on www.particip8overton.com

This project will only work if the whole community gets involved to maximise the use of the HUB for community based events and as part of that we have ensured that we have great disabled access, which means that the whole community can be a part of it. We also have baby changing facilities for mums and dads with young families.

One of our goals is to use the HUB to provide information and assistance to local people whether it be to get a job, find out about benefits, contact an elected representative, get financial advice or any other service that will benefit the community.

Please consider supporting your community hub by volunteering!

13 November 2017HCC opposes proposed 90metre Waste Incinerator Plant in Blantyre

** HCC opposes proposed 90metre Waste Incinerator Plant in Blantyre **

See planning Application (HM/17/0260) for a huge 90m Waste Incinerator Plant on Whistleberry Road, Blantyre

HCC have already objected to this unwanted development due to feedback from the community at a public meeting and we need to make you aware of the impacts:-

This huge plant is only a few miles from Cambuslang East community

The emissions funnel will be 90m tall, 50% higher than the County Buildings

The emissions impact will reach a 6 mile radius distance

Modern incinerators produce harmful toxic fly ash

It’s a venture capital investment project with no ECO/environmental advantages (only for profit).

Huge lorries will come from all over the UK and the site will only employ approx. 20 people.

The incinerator will have to go into Home Reports for those selling their homes nearby.

Cambuslang’s pollution levels are already unacceptably due to high volume car and nearby motorway traffic, existing waste incinerators at nearby Dalmarnock (Polmadie) and Coatbridge.

Please object NOW to the proposed waste incinerator.  Blantyre Community Council have made this easy to do.  You can either:

1. Sign the petition and share with your friends - Petition

2. Print, sign & post the objection letter - Objection letter

Please make your voice heard!
