TWEEDBANK ALLOTMENTS
The Allotment Society was formed last year when interest was shown by a number of local people. After a few false starts land was identified next to the small football pitch north of Essenside Drive. Agreement was made to lease the site from Scottish Borders Council.
Grants that are available for this type of project have been approved and we are confident that funding will shortly be with us.
Depending upon final measurements the site will provide between 12 and 15 plots and raised beds. The majority of the plots have been allocated but the Society would welcome enquiries from anyone interested in renting a plot. One of the plots will be offered, for local groups and organisations to extend their activities.
Local Councillors, SBC officials and the Community Council have all played a huge part in turning the idea of allotments in Tweedbank into a project just about to ‘burst into life’ and the committee are extremely grateful for their help and guidance.
Work in clearing the site will start in the next few weeks and it is hoped that members will soon be reaping the benefits with plot holders installed well before the new growing season.
