Community Council Election May 2013
11 April 2013

The present community council comes to the end of its 3 year term after the meeting on 8th May 2013.

Below is the procedure to be followed for those wishing to be nominated as a community councillor.

Tweedbank Community Council Election
A maximum of 12 councillors to be elected

 
1st May -15th May - Nominations open.

Nomination forms are available from the shop and once completed should be returned to the box for nomination at this location. 

All nominations must be 18 years of age or over and be on the electoral roll for the community council area.  Each nomination must be proposed and seconded by people also on the electoral roll.
15th May – 22nd May -  Cooling off period

A 7 day period to confirm all nominations and to give nominees an opportunity to withdraw their nomination if they choose.
22nd May -  Confirm Community Council

If the number of valid nominations is between 6 and 12 the Returning Officer gives notice of all duly elected and arranges, and Chairs, the first meeting of the new Community Council which will take place on Wednesday 12th June at 7.30pm in the Community Centre.

22nd May – 6th June - Ballot

If the number of valid nominations, excluding any withdrawals, is greater than 12 the Returning Officer must hold a ballot which will be held on Thursday 6th June.  The results of the ballot will be announced on Thursday 6th June.

22nd May -  Suspension of Community Council

If the number of valid nominations is less 6 a community council cannot be formed for a minimum of 6 months.

 

1. Posters advising of the community council election to be circulated throughout the community council area one week before nominations open.
2. Formal SBC press release with picture to be issued giving details of community council election and how to stand.
