Railway Update

Re-opening of the Railway Update
At the September meeting of the community council Jonathan Hepton from SBC railway team presented a comprehensive report on the revised plans for the railway station for Tweedbank. The councillors were reminded of the work that has taken place with regard to this matter having first commenced in 2008 when the first outline plans submitted. Various factors emerged in discussion which required the station to be relocated from its first site to one nearer the village centre. However this has not worked out in practice for various reasons and a new revised plan is about to be submitted to SBC. Jonathan Hepton showed councillors the new plan for a station on the original site but modified to take into consideration concerns raised in discussion, safety aspects, accommodating disabled railway passengers, car parking and other necessary design aspects. Jonathan Hepton indicated that this plan should receive approval from SBC then signing contracts etc and more intensive work would follow after that by Network Rail’s appointed contractor.
