Residents will be aware of a recent article (26th August) in the local newspaper expressibng concern about the traffic congection at the Western Ferry terminal and approaches.   The Community Council has repeatedly brought this issue to the attention of Argyll and Bute Council, Police, and the ferry operators.   Argyll and Bute Council decided to extend the yellow lines by approx 110 metres in the direction of the Holiday Village, using a Traffic Restriction Order (enforceable) to resolve traffic congestion.   This clearly has not been remotely effective, and the only effect has been to deprive residents of Marine Parade of their parking spaces.   HQCC will again address this isssue with relevant authorities.

The next meeting of the Community Council will be on Wednesday 7 Sept. at 1900 in Cowal Dog Club.  AAgenda as per previous meetings.

There has been speculation generated by unsolicited letters concerning the impact of the pig/piglets located in the woodland off Victoria Road.   Please be aware that theses animals are owned, licensed and cared for by a local well known farmer, and are on private property lawfully leased for the purpose.   Contrary to uninformed opinion , there is no adverse effect on the woodland or immediate vicinity.

Residents will have been aware of traffic congestion recently when approaching the ferry terminal.   This is likely to re-occur during the weekend of the Cowal Gathering.   Argyll and Bute Council will be made aware of concerns and the ineffectiveness of the traffic restriction orders recently imposed.

The Community Council would welcome more interest in the business of the Council by local residents, the next meeting of the Council will be Wednesday 7 Sept. at 7pm in the Cowal Dog Club building in Hunters Street.

Since the recent congestion on Marine Parade, representations have been made to local councillors pointing out that the Traffic Restriction Order has had no effect on the continuing problem.   The community council will keep pressing the Council and elected Councillors to find a solution.

Residents will be aware that a number of planters have been located at the bench sites along Marine Parade in an attempt to bring some colour to the area.   These require light maintenance, i.e. watering, weeding.   Any volunteers?

The Community Council would welcome any volunteers from the area to become involved in the business of the Community Council.   It is vital to the local community to have an active council in order to ensure that all issues concerning the locale are properly represented to the elected Councillors and to the Argyll and Bute Council.   There are a number of recently arrived residents in Hunters Quay and we would encourage them to come forward and join us to the benefit of all here.   Please join us.

Residents in the Marine Parade area will see traffic cones placed along the east side of the road as a precursor to laying double yellow lines in the coming days.   This is a follow up to the Traffic Regulation Order recently enacted by A and B Council.  This is a substantial extension to the existing restrictions for parking in that vicinity.

A Traffic Regulation Order has been signed by Argyll and Bute Council affecting the A815 Marine Parade.   The yellow lines to the north of Western Ferries access will be extended by 11 metres with effect from 21 February to August 2023.  After that time a consultation will be held to determine whether this will be made permanent.  Argyll and Bute Council consider this measure will reduce the risk to traffic during peak times of congestion affecting ferry traffic.

A national census will take place on Sunday 20 March this year.   Further information can be found at www.scotlandcensus.gov.uk.

There will be additional questions in this census such as trans status and history, and sexual orientation.   It is not compulsory that these be answered.
