Election Roundup
29 April 2008

Elections to Torfaen County Borough Council take place this Thursday May 1st 2008. This time the three New Inn seats are being hotly contested by some 8 candidates. This must be something of a record.

The 3 sitting  Labour Councillors John Turner, Helen Ford and Maurice Morgan are standing for re-election on the basis of their  experience and track record of improving local amenties.

They are being challenegd by 3 Conservative candidates who have kept  a low profile during the campaign but have put out some publications over the past six months. One of the candidates Mr Graham Smith does not live in New Inn.

Mr Granville Huish, brother of Tom Huish a Blaenavon councillor, is standing as an Independent Candidate and wants to improve New Inn.

Mr Derek Saunders is standing as the People's Voice candidate even though neither his picture nor name appears on their election leaflet. People's Voice does not make it clear what they want to do for New Inn or Torfaen for that matter but their main aim seems to be to unseat as many Labour candidates as possible.

IT'S YOUR CHOICE- Don't forget to vote on Thursday.
