At its last meeting Torfaen CBC voted to outsource its school improvement services to the Education Achievement Service. The EAS has been set up by the education authorities in SE Wales to focus on schol improvement and governor support following criticism by the Welsh Assembly that LEAs were not doing enogh to improve the attainment of pupils especially in secondary schools.

The Council has also abolished the post of Chief Education Offcier from its estbalishment.What this means for the rest of the education service in Torfaen is uncertain at this stage.
