South Sebastopol Housing Development to be Included in the Torfaen Local Plan
31 October 2012

The land between Upper Cwmbran and South Sebastopol is to be included in the Torfaen LDP for housing development afterall. At a recent Council meeting a descision by 20 to 19 infavour of inclusion was passed to the great disappointment of local campaigners. The land had been earmarked for local housing development some years ago but the failure of the developers to start meant that the planning consent lasped and the re-application to build was refused by the Council last year. The planning consent is currently the subject of an appeal to the Planning Inspectorate for Wales in Cardiff.

Proposals to build on this site have been mired in controversy for years with local protestors opposed to building on green land between Cwmbran and Pontypool. On the other hand there is a shortage of affordable housing in Torfaen and the Local Development Plan has to identify land suitable for meeting the housing needs of the area for the next 15 years. Other areas of housing development include 'The British' in Abersychan and the former Parke-Davis Site at Mamhilad.
