Suprise and disappointment has been the reaction of many local residents that the Olympic Torch which made its way from Blaenavon via Abersychan to Pontypool, was then sent by taxi to Newport without visiting Cwmbran. One resident of New Inn pointed out that two thirds of the population of Torfaen live in the Cwmbran area and they have  have been completely snubbed by the Olympic organisers. The Cwmbran area with a population of over 60,000 must be the only settlement of this size to have been ignored.
