The Conservative Candidates for the New Inn ward are standing on their record of direct community action to improve the appearance of New Inn village centre. They have cleared up the derelict site on the Highway formerly occupied by a house 124 The Highway and painted the railing. They are also proud of the fact that they have not taken any cost of living increase in their allowances. .

A local resident commenting on their record said that the land in question looked better but that it should have been done by the owner (Mr Wally Rogers) as it was private rather than public land. He wondered whether they had sought permission to do this work from the landowner.He said that they should have got the Council to serve an improvement order on the landowner rather than used it for photo-opportunities

As for the question of Councillors allowances he said that in view of the poor attendances of 2 of the councillors they were neither earning their allowances not serving the community properly.
