New Inn Community Council Seats to be Contested.

The Pontypool Community Council seats for the 2 wards of Upper and Lower New Inn are to be hotly contested for the first time in nearly 20 years in this year's elections. The candidates are as follows:

New Inn Upper Ward

John Garwell Labour

Danny Coles  Labour

Ray Mills  Conservative

David James  Conservative

Keith Thorne  Plaid Cymru

NewInn Lower Ward

Marian Williams  Labour

Amy Tucker  Labour

Graham Smith  Conservative

Richard Overton  Conservative

John Garwell has held the New Inn Upper for many years and recently it has been made a 2 member ward due to an increase in the population of the area. John Garwell is well known for his work with the Neighbourhoood Watch Schemes and for his role as a Governor of New Inn primary School. Another experienced community councillor,Danny Coles is also standing for Labour in the Upper New Inn Ward.Danny served as community councillor for Lower New Inn for many years and is involved with TOGS and is Chairman of the Torfaen Junior & Youth Football League. Ray Mills and David James are both currently Torfaen Councillors for New Inn.

Marian Williams who is standing for one of the New Inn Lower seats has been a commnity councillor for New Inn Lower for many years. Graham Smith is currently a Torfaen Councillor for New Inn whilst Richard Overton who is a New Inn boy  has yet to be elected to office.

Apart from the intervention of Plaid in the Upper New Inn Ward its for the most part a battle between Labour and the Conservatives.
