Twin Bin Collection Scheme
24 February 2007
Torfaen's Twin Bin Refuse Collection Scheme has been in operation for nearly a year and is to be extended to New Inn later this year. This will enable kerbside recycling to be extended to composable materials. Each house hold will have 2 bins one for composable waste such as garden waste, food waste, cardboard and anything which will rot down. The other bin will be for all the other refuse you cannot recycle. The bins will be collected on alternate weeks so that the 'green'bins collection will be once a every 2 weeks and likewise for the ordinary refuse bin. This will mean that your will be recycling/composting the following items from your waste stream: Glass bottles paper (excluding envelopes) metal cans plastic bottles composable garden and food waste This will significantly reduce the remaining refuse you will have to dispose of in the normal way in your 'ordinary bin'. That's why it only needs to be collected once every 2 weeks. Since 2005 Torfaen CBC seen: -Overall total waste collected reduced by 26% -Residual waste collected reduced by 49% -Green waste collected increased by 31% -Recycling increased by 50% Torfaen CBC will exceed the WAG recycling Target of 25% in 2006/07 and is well on the way to meeting the next target of 40%
