SSEN East Coast 400kV Phase 2

At the Community Council meeting (29th May 2023) members agreed that, rather than duplicating effort we would encourage people to support the Save our Mearns Group already which is up and running.

Furthermore, MCC will work with other Community Councils to represent the views of our Communities to SSEN.

The Community Council will be submitting a formal objection and will write to MPs and MSP's serving this area and to the relevant ministers within the Scottish Government. Members will also submit individual objections if they think it appropriate.

It was noted that the preferred route for the pylons will cross large areas of prime agricultural land.

SSE will provide extra feedback forms to the Farm to Table shop. They have suggested that the formal feedback forms are easier for them to process so they prefer them. A letter of objection giving reason for your objection must be acceptable as long as it has your name and address on it.

Mearns Community Council has requested a full environmental impact study from SSEN. We will share this when received.

For information, there is a supposition that the works at Edzell are related to this project, this not the case. The work there is to support an upgrade to the current transmission system (the one that goes through Drumtochty Glen).

It is understood that Arbuthnott Community Council hope to host a public meeting with representation from SSEN present to answer questions. We can post detail once known.

Please email mearnscommunitycouncil@gmail.com with any questions.
