Oban's CHORD Programme

The following information has come from AECOM who are consultatnts to the CHORD programme.

You may be aware that Argyll and Bute Council are progressing with the Oban CHORD project.  I am the project manager for this work and we are taking forward the Oban Bay / Harbour Project towards a business case for the end of this year with a view to beginning implementation of short term measures in 2012 and a medium / longer term action plan with dates and deliverables defined.

As part of this work we have undertaken a number of stakeholder consultations (some are still ongoing) and we are now arranging a public drop in exhibition event to get views on the projects being considered and to promote information about what Oban CHORD seeks to achieve.  This drop in public event is planned forWednesday 7th September between 11a.m. and 7p.m.  The press release can be viewed here:http://www.argyll-bute.gov.uk/news/2011/aug/public-drop-event-oban-chord.

The drop in will take place (hopefully-weather permitting) outdoors at Station Square beside the clock tower in a gazebo.  At Station Square members of the project team will be on hand to take comments about the project and we’ll have maps and plans to help discussions.

Throughout the day, 3 ‘walkabout’ tours are to take place with interested folks requested to register for the walkabout.  These will happen at 12 noon, 2.30 p.m. and 5.30p.m. and will consist of a walk around the bay and town centre area lasting one hour allowing participants to comment on problem areas around the town centre relating to the CHORD elements of traffic management, transport interchange and the bay area or relating to the wider aspirations of the Oban Action Plan.  The tour will be followed by a 30 minute question and answer session to be held indoors.  The venue for this Q&A session is most likely to be the CalMac terminal building.  The registration for the walkabout can be done online at  http://www.argyll-bute.gov.uk/forms/oban-bayharbour-drop-day-walkabout-tour or by telephoning 01546 604255.

If the weather is against us and outdoors is not possible, we will be hosting the whole event at the CalMac terminal.

Information is also being added to the CHORD web pages and for Oban, the appropriate link is:
http://www.argyll-bute.gov.uk/chord-project/oban-bay-harbour-project  which provides updates and the opportunity to comment / ask questions.

I’m keen that your community council is aware of this work to ensure you are able to feed into the process if desired.  To do this you can contact me (details below), use the weblink to the CHORD webpage (above) and / or participate in the drop in events.  Feel free to disseminate this information as you wish.  The work is ongoing until the end of the year but we would be keen to have any comments you may have prior to the end of September.
