Strathfillan covers the villages of Crianlarich, Tyndrum and Inverarnan and the settlements between these.  It is located at the northern end of the Stirling Council area, within the Trossachs & Teith council ward.

Strathfillan also falls within Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park and lies at the Northern most boundary of this.

Strathfillan Community Council is an active and enthusiastic Community Council.   Community Councillors are guided by the Objectives Statement which is regularly reviewed.  The Strathfillan Action Plan (2104-2019) is another key document in guiding the work of the Community Council.

Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month (except August & December), in Crianlarich Hall at 7.30pm.   All meetings are open to the public, who are made very welcome.   There is normally a local Councillor surgery held at 7pm immediately before each Community Council meeting.

Strathfillan Community Council works closely with Strathfillan Community Development Trust, and a number of campaigns and projects are carried out jointly between the Community Council and Development Trust.

Strathfillan has a permanent population of approximately 400 people, but is visited by many thousands more people each year.  The A85 / A82 Trunk roads intersect in Strathfillan, and the West Highland Railway line has stations in both Crianlarich and Tyndrum.  The long distance West Highland Way walking route also passes through the area and has a major contribution to the local economy.

Most employment in the area is tourism related, and many of the jobs in the area are of a seasonal nature.  There is also employment in farming, and railway work.   Planning permission has been granted for a Gold Mine in Tyndrum, which is hoped will bring increased employment opportunities for local people.

Amongst the challenges facing Strathfillan are the distance from major centres of population, and the difficulties accessing these, particularly by public transport.  Stirling, where the Council administration is based is some 50 miles away, with no direct public transport links.
