Torfaen Council has published its proposals to reduce its budegt by £11.2million due to governments funding cuts and service pressures.Savings have been made across every service area with only schools and social care budgets receiving protection. The Council was faced with a 4% reduction in its grant from the Welsh Government which when combined with spending pressures resulted in a shortfall of £11.2m for next year. Executive member for Resources, Cllr Anthony Hunt stated that some very difficult decisions had been made in what was probably the most challenging budget settlement the in the Council's history.Cllr Hunt said that this was the inevitable result of the  Coalition Government's policy of shrinking  state spending which was causing untold misery to millions.
