Torfaen Tenants Vote for Stock Transfer
19 March 2007
The tenants of Torfaen's Council Houses have voted to transfer the entire Council housing stock to a registered social landlord called Bron Afon Housing. the result was announced on Friday at a public meeting of  all interested parties. The results showed that 68% of those tenants entitled to vote did so. the result was 59% in favour and 41% against.
This means that Torfaen's housing stock will transfer to Bron Afon, a not for profit, charitable organisation which will act somewhat like a Housing Association but will be controlled by a Board made up of a majority of Councillors and Bron Afon tenants. It will mean that the housing stock will be subject to a £100m investment programme of improvements largley paid for by the annual sum of £7m which the Council has to hand over to the Government annually but will now be kept by Bron Afon for housing repairs and refurbishments.
