Rechem Site Could be used for Food waste Recycling
14 February 2011

Shanks owners of the old Rechem site might change their minds about the future use of the old Rechem site. 2 years ago they successfully submitted a planning application for an MBT waste recycling plant but since then little development  has taken place as MBT does not feature in Wales's approach to recycling. However, Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent are committed to deveoping anearobic digestion as a way of dealing with food waste. Putrifraction of such waste in the absence of air(oxygen) produces methane gas which can be used as a fuel to generate electricity or heat. Shanks may well offer this technology on the Rechem site as part of their bid when the contract goes out to open tender. Another possible site is in Blaenau Gwent.
