Torfaen CBC has paid out over £5million pounds in backpay to mainly female workers who have historically been paid less for work of equal value. Under the Equal Pay Act Provisions Torfaen agreed with the major Unions to make the payments this year and has been allowed to borrow the money to do this.This has benefited many low paid female Council. workers employed as cleaners, canteen staff, and carers. This has been an important obligation for the Council under equalities legislation and Torfaen CBc is proud that it has been able to achieve this on behalf of its low paid staff in what has been a difficult financial year. The release of this money will be a major boost to the local economy.
