COMMUNITY COUNCIL'S CAMPAIGN FOR BUS SHELTERS PAYS OFF

COMMUNITY COUNCIL'S CAMPAIGN FOR BUS SHELTERS PAYS OFF

Councillors Megan Jones & Lynne Thomas inspect the bus shelter outside the Co-oprative store

A two year campaign by the Community Council for improved bus shelters has finally paid off with the County agreeing to replace the dilapidated bus shelters along the A47 bus corridor.

The South East Wales Transport Alliance made funding available to the local authority to enable it to undertake a full assessment of each of the bus stops from Taff's Well to Pontypridd. The assessment showed that those bus stops from Taff's Well northwards were in poor condition and required urgent attention.

Every bus shelter on the main Cardiff Rd will be changed with the worst of them will be done first

Because of its condition the first priority will be to replace the shelter outside of the Cooperative store with work hopefully work start during the summer months. In addition, bus stops that currently have no shelters will be getting one and considerable work is going to be undertaken with kerbs altered to ensure safe access etc.

In this financial year almost all of the bus stops northwards will be replaced and, subject to further funding, the remainder completed in the 2012/13 financial year.

The Community Council would wish to publicly thank the County Council's Transport Section for all of their assistance in making these improvements possible.
