 Willow Workshop

Mick Antoniw gets totally involved in Willow Workshop at Taff’s Well Community Garden

On Sunday 21st November, a Willow Workshop was held at the Community Garden in Taff’s Well, when between the hours of 10am and 3pm a Viking Long Boat and a Dome were created out of living willow. At this very well attended event people were instructed in the art of creating and caring for willow structures by Clare Revera and Mel from Out To Learn Willow.

Community Councillor Jill Bonetto and Mick Antoniw, Labour’s prospective AM candidate dropped in during the morning to check on progress, getting totally involved  in the fascinating construction process.

The Community Garden, which was the brainchild of Steve and Rebecca Arnold, has only been going since March of this year, but has had a very productive season. Successes include root vegetables, squashes,   courgettes, soft fruit, kale, cabbages, onions, garlic and pumpkins.  Over winter the work will not stop as there are paths to lay, more raised beds to make, the poly tunnel to be completed for next seasons tomatoes and bulbs to be planted for a spring show.

Anyone who would like to be involved in the growing process but can’t find the time to commit to an allotment might like to join the working party on a Saturday morning. During winter the weather plays a bigger part in which Saturdays can be utilised, but most fine days there is someone on site. So come and see if you like getting your hands dirty, and the taste of something you have grown, then picked and cooked within hours.
