Inadequate facilities at Tawelfryn Park and Oxford Street Playground

Potholes in Oxford Street Lane and playground
The Community Council continues to express its concern over the inadequate play facilities available to children living in Tawelfryn and the Nantgarw areas,

The Community Council believes that these areas have some of the worst play facilities within the County. The Tawelfryn play area has broken play equipment and a football field that is unusable during wet weather.

Local Member Fred Meach said “The Oxford Street play area looks more like a bomb site than a playground and the lane leading to the site is littered with potholes. I have lost count of the number of times that these matters have been reported to the County Council but no action is taken”.

Last year, parents presented a petition to the County Council requesting action be taken but have received no positive response from the County Council to date.

The Community Council has reaffirmed that it is prepared to provide financial assistance to improve facilities but as the land is in the ownership of the County Council they are powerless to act without their agreement.

The Community Council makes no apologies for once again raising this issue and calls upon the County Council and its Elected Members to stop prevaricating and come up with a scheme to improve these facilities.

The Community Council will continue its campaign to ensure that local children have the same level of services that are available in other areas.
