DISABILITY ACCESS TO PUBLIC TOILETS

Don’t get caught without your key

Changes to the way that disabled people access public toilets has been the cause of some concern  as many ‘disabled toilets’ are now locked an can only be accessed with a special RADAR KEY. But why has this been done and how do you get hold of a Key?

The National Key Scheme (NKS) offers independent access to disabled people to around 7,000 locked public toilets around the country.  Disability action groups would like all providers of accessible toilets to keep their toilets unlocked but with increasing vandalism more and more of these facilities are now locked so obtaining a key is becoming increasingly important.

If you have a disability or care for someone who has a disability you can obtain a key directly from the RADAR Disability Network. Tel: 020 7250 3222 E-mail: radar@radar.org.uk there is a small charge which is normally around £4.

In the event of difficulty the Community Council has a small number of keys at its disposal. One can be obtained by contacting one of your local Community Councillors.
