Taff’s Well Car Park Extension Planned

A major investment programme to extend a busy car park for 54 more vehicles, is underway by Rhondda Cynon Taff County Council.
The popular Park and Ride facility at Taff’s Well train station will be extended due to a £250,000 investment programme from the Council’s Transport Grant.
The additional car park will be built on the area of fenced ground opposite the entrance to the existing Park and Ride scheme. It is hoped the new facility will be open by early Summer 2009.
The area will provide much needed additional spaces to an already fully utilised car park and will encourage more use of the Park and Ride facility to a busy train station that provides up to six trains per hour.
The scheme provides an attractive alternative mode of travel which in turn will reduce car use and congestion, improve air quality and reduce gas emissions.
Taff’s Well Railway Station is adjacent to the busy A470 community route into Cardiff. The platforms have recently been lengthened to accommodate a phased introduction between 2009 and 2014 of longer six carriage trains on the busiest journeys. The additional parking spaces will help to make trains a more attractive commuting option.
