Community Council

Hi All

The good weather and holidays are now just a memory but fingers crossed the weather will be reasonable on Saturday morning for the Beach Clean.  Meet at the harbour at 10am.  Plenty of opportunity for all ages and abilities to take part as there are jobs that won't involve scrambling around on the beach !!!!

Kirsten is organising the event and the CC are providing a welcome cuppa and a bacon sarnie when the task is completed - hope to see lots of you there!!!

Some much needed repair work in and around the village has been granted funding at the Forum Meeting on Sept. 5th.  Details will be given at the next CC meeting on  25th September.

Many of the small projects which the Burnmouth Enhancement Group have planned have to be funded by applying for grants and raising money ourselves.  This involves a ridiculous amount of work getting at least three detailed estimates for every tiny aspect of the work involved.  I am very keen and enthusiastic about getting the village looking good but have neither the time nor inclination to spend the hours involved in preparing applications etc. and writing reports.  An easier and more manageable plan would be to  initiate a 'Two Hundred Club' to raise funds ourselves instead.  This would involve a monthly payment of £2 by 200 people (multiple numbers can be purchased). The CC meet for only 10 months of the year so the total annual cost for each 'membership' would be £20. At each monthly meeting  £200 would go to the BEG fund and £200 would be awarded in prize money - £100 First prize, £50 Second and 2x£25 prizes.

I know lots of people are keen to support the enhancement of the village and this seems an easier way for everyone than applying for grants, organising coffee mornings and plant sales etc. We will have a known amount of funds available and can actually get on with the projects !!!!!

Please let me know your thoughts on this as soon as possible and if you would be willing to financially support the village enhancement in this way

Paul Oswald has asked me to pass on some details of  the Ayton and Burnmouth Church activities via this e mail group so I will forward the attachments etc. in another short e mail.

Please note the new e mail address which I have set up for the Community Council - my personal in box was getting just a bit ridiculous !!!

Hopefully you now all have your 'No Cold Callers' info and window stickers.  I can tell you that Joan and I were pretty cold callers ourselves as we delivered them around the village this morning in the biting wind !!!! The bag of envelopes was so heavy that we used my Silver Cross pram to transport them and my hands were blue with the cold !!!!

Can I ask again that Resilience Forms are returned as soon as possible. We are very keen to get all the bad weather/emergency resources and first aid training available for the village so please check that you have returned your form and perhaps mention to friends/neighbours to return theirs too. Please let me know if you have mislaid the forms/info and I will get some more to you.

Hope to see you on the beach on Saturday

Best wishes
