Burnmouth Gateway Stones

SIR, - With reference to the recent debate, initiated by the unknown writer, commenting, amongst other issues, about the Burnmouth Gateway Stones.
Burnmouth Community Council would like to point out that the cost of the sculptures includes up to half the costs in “in kind” contributions.
For example, in excess of £3,000 of work to excavate the foundations, build the plinths and secure the stones is to be given to the project by Byzak and Scottish Water who are undertaking the work, currently going on in the village, to upgrade the sewage system.
As most of the remaining budget is being supplied by funders, the net cost of the sculptures to Burnmouth Community Council is £518.
The designs for the stone carvings and mosaic plinths can now be seen on the Burnmouth website www.burnmouthcc.com
If anyone has any other queries or if they wish to comment further, we would like to remind them that there is an open forum taking place monthly at the Burnmouth Community Council meetings.
The next meeting is on Wednesday, March 17, at 7.30pm in Burnmouth Village Hall.
CAROLINE CLOUGH,
Burnmouth Community Council.
