ROSEWELL CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
Message from Rosewell & District Community Council
We have just been made aware that Midlothian Council withdrew funding for the erection of Xmas lights and trees with last year (2017) being the last fully funded event. We are now asking the view of the community on how we can take this forward?
The cost for 2017 was £2,425
There are options available including the Council continuing to provide this service with the cost met by our community raising funds
or
It may also be possible for the local community to take on this role using suitably qualified people.

Rosewell has 12 items in storage, these are
11 x column mounted windows
1 x storage box (xmas tree lights)
Although these could be stored in a medium sized hut/garage, they are currently stored in the same place that they are repaired/tested prior to use. If stored off site they would then need to be delivered to Midlothian Council for testing + repair prior to going up.
At present an approved electrician carries out a periodic electrical test prior to installation, whilst doing this he also carries out a condition report of the frame. (this must be carried out every year due to the apparatus not being permanently fixed)
All apparatus to be used must be inspected to ensure it is both electrically and structurally safe to be used. This must be recorded for Audit purposes in the case of an accident or claim.
Midlothian Council have informed us that we would be able to plant our own tree, but it would not be allowed in the garden at the corner of Carnethie St/Gorton Road, but have suggested planting on the land at Gorton Place near to the lamp post.
