  Message from Dyfed Powys Police
Scam NHS Covid Vaccine emails…
Dyfed Powys Police Economic Crime Team have become aware of a new Covid Vaccine scam.
DC Gareth Jordan from the Cyber Crime Unit says that in the latest variant of the scam, the victim receives an email that they are on the Covid vaccination list and they need to select whether they do or don’t want the injection.
Either choice will take the victim to a site where they will be requested to enter personal / financial data such as bank account details, card numbers, Driving licence ID, on the pretext that the site is checking their validity. The site is doing exactly the opposite, it is taking their details so they can be used for in more direct ‘spear phishing’ or to utilise the details for ID Theft and also financial fraud.
A simple check of the URL will show that this is a scam – but too many people don’t check.
In the example below, at first glance the email appears to come from [noreply@nhs.gov.uk].
If you hover over the reply email address – the real return address can be seen [Kanda@visceral.co.jp] in this example.
The NHS are not sending these emails out – it is a scam.

Message from Dyfed Powys Police

DC Gareth Jordan from Dyfed Powys Police has said they have been noticing a large increase in scam calls where the criminal calls the victim and pretends that they are from Amazon.

The call may state that £79.97 is owed – but if they don’t want to renew, they can cancel Amazon by pressing ‘1’.

It may be a call that states that there has been unauthorised spending on the account (often over£1,000), and again, the request is to press ’1’ to go through to the ‘Fraud Department’.

With any of these types of call, If ‘1’ is pressed, the victim will be connected to a ‘customer representative’ who will attempt to obtain as many personal details as possible from the victim, they will also try to gain access to their bank details – often under the auspice that it is to provide a refund.

Unfortunately, these criminals are very adept at social engineering, and sound thoroughly convincing.

Many people think that the scammers will have a ‘foreign’ accent, but this is not always the case. Many criminal gangs now use previous UK based victims to carry out the phone calls, in order for them to pay off their debt.

For any of these types of call, it is best to hang up, and then check your account online by using the app on your phone, or typing in the correct address such as [www.amazon.uk] and then log into your account that way and check.

Do not follow links if the criminal texts or emails them through – these will normally take you to fake sites that look authentic.

COVID-19 - Dietician and Nutrition advice on food parcels & meals

Dear Colleagues

One of the key impacts of social isolation may be the danger of malnutrition for our most vulnerable and at risk in our communities.  Colleagues from WLGA and Cardiff and the Vale University Health are happy to support colleagues in local authorities, community voluntary councils, community & town councils and community groups who are involved in the distribution of food parcels and/or meals, in particular those with special dietary requirements.

In addition, Lisa Williams,All Wales Nutrition Training Facilitator ,is in the process of putting together some resources  that might be helpful for those who are taking phone calls on help and advice lines  and a bank of recipe cards that could be sent out with food parcels and information to promote the government advice to continue vitamin D supplementation, which they will be happy to circulate.

SUL Y BLODAU

Mae Cyngor Sir Ceredigion yn annog y cyhoedd i beidio ag ymweld â mynwentydd o fewn eich Cymuned yn y dyddiau cyn Sul y Blodau na chwaith ar Sul y Blodau ei hun, yn sgil yr angen i osgoi unrhyw deithio ar wahân i deithiau angenrheidiol ar yr adeg hon.

Er bod pob un ohonom yn cydnabod pwysigrwydd y traddodiad o roi blodau ar feddau anwyliaid er mwyn cofio amdanynt, eto i gyd mae’n rhaid i ni bwysleisio na fyddai’n briodol nac yn ddiogel ymweld â mynwentydd eleni oherwydd y risgiau sy’n bodoli yn sgil y Coronafeirws.

Er cymaint y byddai pob un ohonom yn dymuno parhau â’r traddodiad hwn a’r dull hwn o ddangos cariad tuag at yr anwyliaid hynny yr ydym wedi eu colli, ni allwn beryglu ein hiechyd ni a iechyd pobl eraill.

Aros Adref, Achub Bywydau.

Palm Sunday

Ceredigion County Council asks the public not to visit the cemetery on Palm Sunday due to the need to avoid all but essential travel at this time

Whilst we acknowledge the importance of the tradition of placing flowers on the graves of loved ones to keep their memory alive, we also need to emphasise that it would not be appropriate or safe for families to visit cemeteries this year because of the risks posed by Coronovirus.

As much as we would all want to carry on with this tradition and display of love towards those close to us that we have lost, we cannot put our or other's people's health at risk.
