New Defibrillator Installed at Busy Harbour Area in Eyemouth
Another Iconic Red old BT Phone Box has been saved in the Area by some hard work by local Organisations in Eyemouth.
The Splash Project, with assistance from Eyemouth & District Rotary, Eyemouth Enhancement Group & Eyemouth Community Council, as well as financial support from D R Collin & Son Ltd and some paint from Eyemouth Marine has meant that the Phone Box could be purchased, and a new Defibrillator installed.
Project Manager in Splash, Fiona White said “this is an excellent example of the people of Eyemouth coming together to fundraise, volunteer and make things happen for the better of the town – this corner of Manse Road, leading to Harbour Road looked run down and neglected before The Town Council told us that the phone box was about to be ripped out and taken away. So we sprang into action, rolled up our sleeves and got going! This would not have been possible without the assistance of our wonderful volunteers at Splash though. With all this support we have also been able to donate £500 to Eyemouth First Responders who will be ensuring that the Defib is maintained so that it is always ready to be used in the unfortunate event of a cardiac arrest. Although we are aware that Eyemouth is fairly well served with these life saving devices, we felt that the proximity to the Harbour with a large number of employees and tourists around this area then it was vital that there should be one here”
Future plans include further enhancement of the area with more planters and some seating is already in hand and anyone interested in volunteering for this should contact Splash directly. CPR & Defib Training is also planned for early next year and this will be offered free.
