Local Issues : Cycle track Oban to Fort William

Sustrans is a national organisation, with the lofty aim of providing a National Cycle Network around the country. Their West Coast route passes through our parish, skirting along the Western shoreline, often utilizing the old Railway track or exploring the forestry.

They have made significant head way in some parts, especially from Benderloch to Creagan Bridge which is well along the construction process. The track from Oban to Dunbeg has been visible for some time, and already well used. It has, in fact, only been completed to sub-base so far, but is awaiting its surface dressing to finish it.

The Dunbeg-Connel and Connel-Benderloch stages are at the design and land aquisition stages.

If you are interested in exploring further details you can find a map here :  http://www.sustrans.org.uk/webfiles/general/sustrans-map-2009.pdf

And the Sustrans site itself  www.sustrans.org.uk has much more information.

How do you think its going so far? Do you like the scheme, or not? What opportunities do you see this offering our community?

There are plans for interpretation points along the way, here is a site from the people involved in designing it and some of the work they have started in Ballachulish. What topics would YOU like to be used through our parish?

The Car park at Benderloch village is included in the Sustrans route, how would you like to see them using this space?

Any comments, information and discussion relating to this area can be found on the community forum here
