The Eyemouth Community Council acts as a voice for the Community of Eyemouth. Scottish Borders Council representatives attend these meetings and take on board feedback from the Community Councillors, actioning it where appropriate. Sub-groups of the Community Council work on projects to make our town a better place for everyone, reporting back to the main monthly meetings.

The Council meet on the last Monday of the month at 19:00 in the Eyemouth Community Centre on Albert Road. The council holds eight meetings per year, and members of the public are welcome to attend these meetings and raise any local matters of concern.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The following was composed by Peter Aitchison:
Eyemouth is one of the most historic burghs in Scotland. First noted as a port during the 12th century reign of William the Lion, it was fought over and liberated during the Wars of Scottish Independence, emerging as a significant trading centre in the 18th century – both for legally trafficked goods, and for a lot more that was smuggled through the harbour. The legacy of free-trade days can still be seen in the architecture of parts of the town, with close set vennels and wynds. The 19th century was boom time for Eyemouth as a fishing centre, though it also brought the lowest point in the town’s past, with 129 local men perishing in the Great Disaster of 1881. Sixty others from nearby ports including Burnmouth and St Abbs were also drowned. Fishing remains important to the economy, but this most welcoming and attractive place to live, work and visit is also a perfect place for tourists. There is ample accommodation in some excellent hotels and B&Bs for visitors who can enjoy the superb scenery, relaxed environment and activities such as walking, angling, bird watching and diving.
Eyemouth has a population of about 3,067 people (2011 Estimate).
