As you may be aware NHS A Picture of Health is a consultation document from NHS Lanarkshire. The proposal is to remove one accident and emergency department from either Haremyres or Monklands hospital. The A & E department at Wishaw will continue as present. It is very likely that Monklands will be sacrificed which means that all accident and emergency patients in Cumbernauld and surrounding area will need to make the journey to East Kilbride or Wishaw. We believe this proposal will costs lives needlessly. Petitions will be produced by variously concerned groups and individuals to stop this happening. Please take the time to sign one. Write to NHS Lanarkshire make your opposition to the closure of Monklands A & E department clear. The health care in Cumbernauld is woefully inadequate as matters stand at present. Shutting down yet another vital service in this area can only open the way for further reductions in service in the future.
