We in Aberfeldy have been asked to help the folk of Bakewell, in Derbyshire, where Albert now lives, to contribute greetings from his home town, as part of a birthday celebration in his current home town, being organised by the Mayoress.
Watch out for news on the Community Noticeboard.
The people of Bakewell have just commemorated D-Day with a WW2 Royal Naval veteran, Albert Keir.
Albert was born and brought up in Aberfeldy, and joined the LDV where he was on guard duty on the Wade bridge. When old enough, he joined the Royal Navy and made his way South where he received training and returned to Scotland for a time on commando training. He was deployed to HM ships, Flower class Corvette HMS Potentilla on which he served during D-Day and later on in the war.
Albert often talks about his home town, and his sister, Chris, still lives in the town and visited Albert in Bakewell, Derbyshire, a couple of years ago.
It is Albert’s birthday on 26th June and the Bakewell town Mayoress is having a birthday party for him.
