Family Research
According to my research this village is a resident of my family in 1499. The research shows William Avery (Avera)resided in Fillongley and was born abt 1499. The family remained in the area until about 1665 when they emigrated to Jamestown, VA. Of course the history moves to the US at that time. The Avery family now resides in Mississippi and Alabama.

Village School
My Grandfather was Headmaster at the Village School through the 1920's and his wife and my mother obviously lived there too, until he moved in 1933 to Walsall. Sadly he dies shortly after but is buried in the churchyard, close to the school door way. The school record which I found in the Warks County Library is a fascinating social history from the time in his own hand, including diptheria outbreaks and the effects of the general strike. My grandmother spoke fondly of those times-her married life I guess, and the people who they met there, like the Kelseys and so on. Not so keen on memories of the local gentry, Lady Norton at the time was it?
It very difficult with work pressures nowadays to attend the Parish Council meetings, but we do attend as many as possible. The Parish Councillors do a great job on a voluntary basis. This website gives those not always able to attend a great opportunity to keep up with Parish Council business.
