THE DOUGLAS VALLEY

Douglas Community Council (incorporating Glespin and surrounding areas) operates for the benefit of the citizens residing and / or working within the Douglas and Glespin areas and was established on 15th June 2004.

The DCC (Douglas Community Council) meets every second Monday of each month at 7.30pm in the St Brides Centre, Douglas and the Glespin Community Hall, in monthly rotation.

The DCC membership structure is made up of four elected + two nominated from Douglas area and two elected + one nominated from Glespin area, who have to be either a resident, a member of an organisation which has an interest in the area, or work within the Community Council boundary. The MP, MSP and Councillor make up the remaining ex-officio membership.

The DCC operates within the regulations laid down in the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1994 and South Lanarkshire Council's 'Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils'.

The DCC is presently the only operational one of three Community Council areas within the South Lanarkshire Council Douglas Ward, and encompasses the conurbations from the western side of this Ward at the South Lanarkshire Council boundary with East Ayrshire Council and stretches to the village of Uddington to the east, taking in the land to the north up to the boundary of the village of Coalburn and the Crawfordjohn boundary to the south.
