We are accustomed to lenghty road closures when there is a serious accident locally, but, on Friday, after the very serious accident at Dunfuinary, Connel, the road did not re-open until 4.15 pm. The head on collision between two lorries happened around 6 am. However, we understand that the special Transerv vehicle which deals with the clean-up after this kind of incident, had a puncture. This happened at Tarbet, and took some time to fix, resulting in a much longer delay in opening the road than otherwise might have been the case.
Connel Community Council has been saying for years that this is a dangerous stretch of road and a local resident claims to collect broken mirrors, on a weekly basis, from trucks which narrowly avoid having this kind of collision.
