 Operation Independence Oban

 Operation Independence was a covert policing operation which took place in Oban under the guidance of Chief Inspector Brian Auld. The operation was intelligence led throughout and targeted individuals who were involved in the unlawful supply of controlled drugs in the Oban area.

 The evidence gathering phase of the operation ran between 16 and 27 May 2011, leading to an executive day of action taking place on Friday 10 June 2011, which involved in excess of 70 police officers. Twelve properties were searched under warrants granted under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

 In total there were 13 persons charged with 46 offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. Approximately £10,000 worth of controlled drugs and £600 cash seized during this operation.

 Positive policing saw a number of these individuals being detained in custody and attending Oban Sheriff Court on Monday 13th June 2011.
