More on Connel Bridge Closures

The engineer for SSE is concerned about the recent inclement weather.

Glensanda Quarry have telephoned me today querying whether the works
were still proceeding.

As of today they are still proceeding on Monday night 17th January if
the weather becomes Mild.

If a hard frost, or worse, is predicted for 17th January then we will
postpone the work for a week. SSE need Mild weather to prevent 'frost
heave' of the footpath reinstatement.

So, if it is mild weather with no frost predicted we will continue as
planned.

SSE have recently told me that they may require more than 4 nights
closure in order to achieve a permanent final surface to the footpaths
on the viaducts  (rather than a temporary surface to be reinstated
later).

This means the work may extend into a second week.

Please let the village know.

I have agreed with SSE that we will make a decision on Thursday once the
weather forecast is more reliable.
