"I have been elected as the Chairman of the Steering Group which is trying to raise some £20k by the 6th January as a deposit - which is a pretty tall order at this time of year. It could be a very short Chairmanship unless we raise the funds in time but we have to try and retain this facility for local people and visitors alike.

We have 'seats' for sale at £200 OR £1,000 for corporate seats. In essence these are really donations to try and establish there is a strong community interest in Oban and North Argyll to retain the old Cinema for showing films and as a venue for other cultural 'happenings. There is an email address for applying for 'seat' forms and for pledging donations at obanphoenixcinema@gmail.com . The form includes a section for a commemorative plaque which will be attached to the seat.

 Cheques for £200 can be submitted to the DM Mackinnon offices in Station Square, Oban with a note of interest in view of the extremely short timescale."
