Toucan Crossing for Connel Village

As part of the scheme for the Caledonia Way (the proposed Campbeltown to Inverness Cycle Path) as it passes through Connel, Transport Scotland are proposing to install a Toucan Crossing opposite the Oyster Inn. Several Community Councillors and the management of the Oyster Inn are very concerned that the necessary traffic lights and collateral signage and works will have an extremely negative impact on one of the finest views in the area.

The plans for the Cycle Path as it passes through the village have been exhibited in Connel PO but as they are simply a Redetermination of Means of Exercise of Public Right of Passage, so there is no detail on the plans at all. The Toucan Crossing is not mentioned. In order to guage to likely impact of the Toucan Crossing, photographs of the scheme in Glencoe Village are attached.

Comments on the proposals need to be made before 27 October and villagers are invited to attend a meeting to discuss the scheme at the Oyster Inn, who are kindly providing their premises for that purpose. The date and time of the meeting will be announced shortly.
